It is becoming a trend nowadays among beginners to think that buying supplements and putting them in will solve all their problems. They think no matter what the problem — not losing love handles, unable to build muscle fast, unable to lose fat fast, or not seeing fast progress; supplements will solve all of their problems. And This is why people often end up buying unnecessary products which not even add any value and just waste their money. They need to know if a supplement is worth buying or not before purchasing the item.

This is why here in this blog, I am going to share what are the fundamental things that are common among all needless products and how to know if you really need to buy a supplement. But before we start here is an overview of supplements and why do we need them.

Overview of supplements and their need

We do not get all the essential nutrients through the food we eat every day and that is where supplements play their role. Supplements help us get all the nutrients that we are unable to get through regular foods. Wheater you are planning to join the gym or just do home workouts or just trying to have a healthy life; if you can not give the body the nutrients it requires you can never have a healthy body from inside. And that is why sometimes you need supplements to fulfill the criteria.

I will not say supplements are everything. You can replace the supplements with the foods you have daily. But when you are in a calorie deficit or do not have the flexibility to reach the nutrient goals then you have to rely on supplements.

Types of supplements

There are plenty of supplements available on the market. Every micro or macronutrient you can think of is available in the market in the form of supplements. Here are some supplements that are quite famous and thoroughly used by people,

  • Ashwagandha
  • Creatine
  • BCAA
  • EAA
  • Protein Powder
  • Multi-Vitamins
  • Fish oil
  • Zinc
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D

Although there are also other types of supplements available in the market, most of them are really inessential for a regular person.

Indications to know if a supplement is worth buying

Here are some signs that prove a supplement is useless.

Supplement that pretends it can replace hard work

Seeking an easy solution to all of their problem has become regular for people in recent years. And this is where most of the public (especially teenagers) end up buying false products. No such thing can substitute hard work. Most companies fool people by making them believe their product can be an easy replacement for to hustle that someone put in training.

Supplement that promises an overnight result

One fundamental thing that all needless products guarantee is an overnight result. They make their product like it is the one-step solution to the problem. But the reality is overnight results are years in making. There is no product on earth that can get you overnight results (unless you use steroids). So next time when you are going to buy a supplement see if the product is pretending to give overnight results or not.

Cheap products

Cheap is not always bad. But in the case of supplements, I will never recommend them. In past, I also bought a few cheap supplements. But one day while watching YouTube Aryan Khanna (one of my favorite creators) explained in one of his videos why he never buys cheap supplements and from that day my mindset shifted. In that video he said,

“This is something that I am putting inside my body and I never compromise on anything that I am eating.”

Who knows how they are made and those cheap products are even really worth buying, or the companies are just trying to fool people and make money. 

This is why I better eat whole foods to get all the necessary nutrients rather than buying cheap products. Currently, I only consume Creatine as a supplement. I get other nutrients from foods. I no more use protein powder (it’s just my personal preference).

So always try to ask these three most fundamental questions whenever you are going to buy a supplement. Also, you can check numerous reviews from blogs; and videos that are available on the internet. Remember supplements are just 2-3% of the task, they are not everything. If you do not put in the hard work, you will not see any outcome.

How to know if you need a supplement

Now you know to track an unnecessary supplement but how do you know if you really need it or if the supplement is worth buying? Here’s how.

  • See if you are unable to hit the daily goal of that nutrient.
  • You are deficient in any nutrient.
  • You want better result in training.
  • You are lacking energy. (In case of Pre-workout)
  • You are getting muscle cramps.
